SPOILER ALERT - My Thoughts On Remember Me

SPOILER ALERT!! I can't wait any longer to post my thoughts on Remember Me, so if you haven't seen the movie yet, STOP READING!!

I've read so many reviews since yesterday, and I can't believe there are that many idiots who get paid to review movies. The main problem seems to be the ending. Some people actually believe that Summit or someone else changed the ending to 9-11 to get more of a response from the audience. I'm not high on Summit right now (if you don't know why, then you haven't been reading my blog) but I do know they didn't change the ending to exploit 9-11 and elicit a more emotional ending. If I am remembering all of the stories from the past year or so, wasn't this ending in the original screenplay?

Ugh. Reviewers always piss me off when they have no clue what they are talking about. I see a lot of comparisons to 'Love Story', which I am conflicted about, mostly because with 'Remember Me' we weren't ALL prepared for a love story with death as the ending. And the death is not the important message in 'Remember Me'. It's that you never know what's going to happen, and that you need to live life to the fullest. If you feel something, say it. If you want something in life, go for it. "Live in the Moments"

I am so tired of people always comparing Robert's characters to 'Edward'. It seems these reviewers brought their preconceived notions and their 'Twilight' hate into this movie. I saw no resemblance to 'Edward' at all. 'Tyler' was very emotional, it was not just stares and angst, and I hope I never again hear someone compare Robert's performance to James Dean.

And anyone who has a problem with Robert's hair needs to get over it already.

I am rambling, but I am aggravated and trying to get all of my thoughts unscrambled and into coherent sentences. Below you will find my 'original' review that I wrote immediately after seeing 'Remember Me.'

My husband and I went to see "Remember Me" on Saturday, March 11, 2010. Sadly, there were only 12 people in the theatre. I thought there would be more than that!!

I think Robert did an terrific job portraying Tyler. The character of Tyler feels real - more real than Edward does. There are a variety of emotions displayed and Robert gives an excellent performance. I can't wait to see his future films.

I loved his roommate, Aiden. Yes, he was shallow, but a lot of young 20-somethings are the same way. He really did care about the people in his life. I love the shot of him in the classroom at the end of the movie. I want my own 'Tyler' tattoo!!!

I was prepared to not like Ally, but I found myself liking her, and rooting for her and Tyler. She seemed a little sheltered at the beginning of the movie, which made her moving out of her father's house a little out of character.

Tyler's little sister was terrific. Robert did a great job being all big-brotherly. They are 10 years apart, so they actually have affection between them instead of the usual fighting between siblings that are closer in age.

I am assuming Tyler's dad become so cold and seemingly uncaring as a way to distance himself and protect himself from more hurt. In his eyes, 'taking care' of Tyler and his little sister means nothing more than making sure they are 'provided for'. But he doesn't give them his time or attention, which is what Tyler resents so much. I loved the second time his dad bailed him out of jail. It seemed his dad was starting to loosen up a bit, and Tyler got a little glimmer of hope in reconnecting with his dad. And then when Tyler sees the photos on his dad's computer it makes him realize that his dad really does care.

Ally's dad is a character that really gets little development. I am assuming they meant for him to be overprotective and overbearing. But he really came off as controlling and abusive. I understand how he could worry about Ally not coming home when she was supposed to, he probably thought something bad had happened to her (like what happened to his wife). But his overreactions really made him look like an ass.

As with most movies, one can always find flaws - continuity errors, editing problems, scenes that seem out of place, actions that are out of character. I choose not to dwell on the small things with 'Remember Me', but instead focus on the overall effect and feel of the movie.

Right now, most critics and a lot of reviews are negative because of the movie's ending. I don't feel that it's the studio's fault for the ending. It was written that way. I don't feel it was a ploy to wring as many emotions as possible from the viewers. It wouldn't have had the same impact if he had died another way. (Then it would have just been another Nicholas Sparks movie, and I think everyone knows how much I HATE those!!!!!!)

Overall I really liked 'Remember Me.' I would recommend that everyone see it. I would actually love to see it again at the theatre, but I will probably end up waiting for it on DVD.

We Just Saw Remember Me...

The only thing my husband could say was "Holy shit."
I think may have mumbled "OMG" before I covered my mouth with my hand.

I mentioned before that I had stayed away from spoilers for 'Remember Me." I'm so glad I didn't know anything. This was a much anticipated movie for me, but I really didn't have any expectations going into it. My one real hope was that Robert Pattinson would prove that he really could act if given the right opportunity. I think he did a very credible portrayal of Tyler. And he has a great range of emotions in this movie.

I don't want to reveal anything spoilerish for those of you who haven't seen the movie yet - Why haven't you seen it??? Go see it. NOW!! - so I won't go into details now. I'll save my in depth review for later so I don't ruin the movie for anyone.

Robert, Robert Everywhere...

My husband and I are going to see 'Remember Me' tomorrow. I hope it's as good as the trailers make it out to be. I've been careful to stay away from any types of spoilers, so I have no clue what the ending is. Hopefully it doesn't make me cry.



The first official 'Eclipse' trailer has been released. I can't squee too loudly, but... SQUEEEEEEEE!!



AND if that wasn't enough Robert for you, get your hot little hands on 'New Moon' on March 20. I don't plan on going to any of the midnight release parties. That seems a little juvenile for me.

I do plan on purchasing my copy at Target. I actually can't wait to watch it again. I know I totally blew on it when I saw it in the theatre, but I'm willing to give it another chance (or two).

I love the movie 'Bright Star'. I have the soundtrack also and listen to it at least once a day, especially while sewing. I found John Keats' original manuscripts online and became inspired. I think this zippered pouch turned out really cuter than expected!!

Monday Morning...

I really do miss making these. They were so much fun to make. These are the ones that I had for sale before the buttheads came along and made me take them off Etsy. It's kinda funny that I had to stop selling them, but others didn't. There are many different items with Twilight related photos everywhere on Etsy. How do they determine who gets threatened with legal action?

I Love Fabric

Have I ever mentioned that before? Because I do. I have a very serious fabric loving and buying problem. I just purchased some fat quarters of Sandi Henderson's Meadowsweet and Laura Gunn's Poppy Collection from Fabric Flair.

Now I can't wait to get Joel Dewberry's new line called Modern Meadow. The Dogwood prints look really cute!!

Rainy Weekend = New Bag and Helping with Homework and...

watching way too much of the Olympics. I am really involved in the Olympics this year. I don't know why, but it's been fascinating. Even before the opening ceremonies (which I watched) when luger Nodar whatshisname was killed... for some strange reason I watched that video too many times and cried and cried and cried. The summer Olympics are just okay for me, but these winter games are so much more exciting and dangerous, and just fun to watch and see who wins. Which also poses a problem because my husband and I have been avoiding the news and radio reports and our 'home page' so our nightly watching isn't spoiled by knowing who wins.

I also had to 'help' both of my kids with school projects this weekend. Which greatly cut into my sewing time. But I did manage to create this cute bag:

Stone Wildflowers

I managed to make this bag (along with the Twilight one I previously posted) over the 4 day weekend. We had snow days on Monday and Tuesday. Even though it didn't snow on Monday. Whatever. It just gives me more time to sew. Although the kids drive me nuts on days off.

I made 2 of these bags for Christmas presents. I thought they turned out really cute, so I decided to make one for the shop. I just love this fabric. It's Joel Dewberry's Stone Wildflowers from his (discontinued) Ginseng line of home dec weight fabrics.

Another Custom Order

I had a customer contact me about making a purse to match the pouch she purchased recently. She even picked out which fabrics she wanted. I think it turned out pretty darned cute!! I hope she loves it as much as I do.

My Baby... er, I Mean My Big Boy

Right before Christmas my 15 year old son suddenly had a girlfriend. She came out of the blue. Wait, she didn't come out of the blue, she came through the XBox. Sad, but true. He 'met' her through his friend's girlfriend. The 4 of them went to the movies once. And my son went ice skating with her. Then I found out through his MySpace that he had suddenly and unexpectedly dropped her like a rock. Turns out he met a girl in his math class when the new semester started at the beginning of the new year. So with this new girlfriend comes other problems for us, his parents. I've always held firm in my belief that my kids won't be doing solo dates or any kind of alone time with no parents around. Especially at each other's homes. I will not relent on this. He has been wanting to spend his weekends with her, so we have to be sure we talk to her grandmother and make sure an adult will be present when they are there. And I am always home when the kids are here, so they won't be alone when I'm on duty.

Any other mothers out there with kids this age? Anyone have any advice or comments on my parenting skills?

Oh, the photo up there is my son this past Saturday night. He and his girlfriend went to a school dance. I think he looked very handsome!!

My husband drove them to and from the dance. I also have firm rules about my kids riding around with strangers. Or at least riding with people I don't know very well. Maybe I am too controlling, and I am definitely a worry wart, but I want to know that my kids are as safe as they can be.

Bright Star

Remember my previous post regarding Bright Star? I finally saw it last night. It actually arrived from Netflix on Tuesday, and I have been slowly dying all week while waiting for the chance to watch it.

It is a wonderful movie. Very well acted. I've only seen Abbie Cornish in Stop-Loss, and Ben Whishaw in Brideshead Revisited, but they are both perfect for the parts of Fanny Brawne and John Keats. The dialogue alone is worth seeing this movie for - almost every word between Fanny and Keats has deep meaning, and much of it comes directly from Keats' poems and letters.

The movie is slow at times, but I thought the beautiful cinematography more than made up for the lack of 'action'. The movie flows like Keats' poetry, it has a dreamlike quality, with very touching scenes of Fanny and Keats wandering through the countryside and meadows filled with wildflowers, longing for each other and dreaming together.

Maybe I like the movie so much because I have read the real story of Fanny and Keats. It is both sad and tragic, and I can't help but feel for their situation. And even though I knew how the end would come, I was still deeply upset. Be sure to listen to Ben Whishaw reciting "Ode to a Nightingale" during the closing credits. It's mesmerizing.

Dear John,

I am currently reading "The Lucky One" by Nicholas Sparks. I'm about 100 pages in, and so far, it's pretty boring. A few summers ago I read A Walk To Remember and Dear John, which were both good. Last year I read The Choice, which was just alright, not the greatest. And I started to read Nights in Rodanthe but gave up after the first few pages didn't capture my attention.

It's been years since I read Message in a Bottle. I saw the movie and was complaining to my brother's girlfriend (at the time) about how much I hated the ending. She recommended reading the book and said it was so much better than the movie. Well, the lead character still dies at the end, so for me it didn't change the way I felt about the ending. I just have a very difficult time with movies where one of the lead characters dies at the end. I want my happy ending. I don't want sad, end of the story, and knowing that they'll never be together again. I want to know, or at least think, that the couple lived on together in happiness for however long. I don't think one half of a couple dying makes a better or stronger 'love'. Romeo and Juliet was brilliant, but both of them dying doesn't make the love into more than it was. Their dying just made their love story tragic.




Has everyone seen the trailer for Dear John? I keep watching it, and it looks really good, AND I just love Channing Tatum. Yum. (Too funny!! My husband is downstairs yelling up at me "Your boy is in a new movie that's coming out." Yes dear, I know!! LOL) I really want to see this in the theatre, but I just know I would start bawling. I cry very easily. I'm sure I could get my husband to go see it with me, and if so, I'll definitely have to bring tissues!!

The song that is used for the trailer is "Set The Fire to the Third Bar" by Snow Patrol. I think the first time I heard (and really listened) to this song was when I was watching a Michael and Sara/Prison Break video. And the CD that this song is on, Eyes Open, is really good.

So go watch, listen, or read.... and be happy!!!

Grease is the word!!!

I think it's quite obvious that I like 'Grease'. Just look at my business name!!! I was flipping through the most recent fabric catalog from Hancock's-Paducah and this is the fabric that really caught my eye: Official 'Grease' fabric from Clothworks. I must have this. I must find it and buy it and rub it and love it... and I think you get the picture. It's just way too cute and way too ME.

I'm normally a law-abiding citizen...

However, I may have been breaking the law recently. I knew that. It's not beyond my knowledge. Sum*mit Ent.'s legal department contacted Etsy and had my items removed. It seems Sum*mit owns the copyright to every word, name, and/or phrase that is even slightly related to the Twi-light series. AND they own EVERY photo of everyone who is in the movie series. Hmph.

Here's the kicker: I'm not supposed to talk about this (oops) and I am not allowed to ask Etsy why items that are the same or similar to mine are still on Etsy. Sum*mit must think I'm a big fish since they are going after me. Not that you can't type "Twi-light" in the search box at Etsy and find hundreds of other sellers doing the same thing as me. I feel special for being singled out.

New Style For The New Year

I decided to make my sister-in-law (my brother's wife) and my other brother's girlfriend a new purse for Christmas. They both prefer zipper closures, so I took the same measurements that I used on THIS bag and made it with 2 handles and a zipper. They both turned out really cute!!
