On the 1st Day of Christmas...

Sorry. Not a partridge in a pear tree. Not even close.

For the 1st Day of Christmas I give you a Set of 5 Zipper Pouches for just $2.50!! This set would make a perfect gift by itself, or use them to hold gift cards or other small gifts.

To share a bit of history, the 12 Days of Christmas are actually the 12 days after Christmas. The 12 days count from December 25th until January 5th, the last day of the Christmas Season before Epiphany (January 6th). If you want to read more about the 12 days you can visit HERE.

12 Days of Christmas

I cannot believe it is December already!! Well, not until tomorrow... but still. To celebrate The 12 Days of Christmas MY way, each day I will offer a different item in my shop at a special price. It may be only one item, or it may be a section of my shop with special prices. You'll have to check every day to see what I have to offer!!

Be sure to check out my Facebook page as I will be posting the specials there every day also.

Amy Butler Soul Blossoms

I just found out that Quilt Home is shipping Amy Butler's Soul Blossoms fabrics. Eek. I really want some of this. Okay, I want most of it. I can't say I really want all of the prints because some of these prints just scream Kaffe Fassett, and I'm not really fond of his designs. I have no idea why she would try to emulate his style.

I also want some or all of the home decor weight Soul Blossoms fabrics. I love those. But with Christmas right around the corner, I can't justify spending that much money on fabric. Maybe I can buy it for myself for Christmas? Hmmm... I'll think about it.

Is the countdown on? One year until Breaking Dawn Part 1

Gah. An entire year until Breaking Dawn Part 1 is released. It seems like a long time to wait between Eclipse and BD. A year and a half. If you think about it, the first 3 movies (Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse) were released within a year and a half of each other. Personally, I think it is too long between movies. I wonder if the same amount of interest will be there a year from now.

The Eclipse DVD will be released on December 4. I haven't compared features from the different places that will have the DVD available. I will probably go with the Target version though, since that is where I picked up Twilight and New Moon, and I was pleased with the 'extras'. And then I can watch it for the second time. Yeah, that's right. My husband and I were completely late to the party on this movie. It was literally the last showing of Eclipse in any theatre around here. So we had no opportunity to view it more than once. I would have liked to have seen it one more time in the theatre, unlike Twilight and New Moon, which we really had no desire to see more than once.

Then I will be having a movie marathon. Watch Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse back to back. Overload? Probably. But I think I can handle it.

After Zoe is convinced he's legit, angel and lost girl come together in a love that changes destiny. But Heaven on Earth can't last forever.

It's still too early to put up the Christmas Tree

My daughter is in full Christmas mode. She's very excited to put up the Christmas tree, but worried about keeping the cat and dog away from it. Prior to last year, we had a HUGE rotating (fake) tree with hundreds of lights. We've been losing sections of lights on the tree, so we started wrapping light strands around to fill in the gaps. So last year I went out and bought a much smaller non-rotating pre-lit tree. My daughter hated it. So now she realizes that we can't possibly use the huge tree again because the puppy is not going leave it alone. I suggested placing our smaller tree on a table so the puppy can't get it. I have no idea if that will work either, because he sure can jump high for a small dog!!

But I did put my foot down on setting up the tree over the weekend. That is something we do every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. My daughter will just have to wait until then. She's been filling her time with other Christmas activities. Last Sunday she watched Santa Clause 2. Last night she talked her brother into watching The Polar Express. Listening to Christmas music - 2 of our local radio stations went to all Christmas music last week. A bit ridiculous, I know. And she is coloring pictures, alternating between turkeys made from her hand print, and Christmas trees, and hanging them all over the house.

I'll get into the Holiday mood soon. I think I'll have to wait until after Thanksgiving though.

Go Elf Yourself...

Elf Yourself is back again. I just made an elf using my daughter's photo and doing the hip hop dance. But if I post it anywhere she will kill me. Seriously. I'll have to get her to make one of herself, then I will share it. Sneaky, I know.

Is it too early to start putting up Christmas lights? Because I made asked my husband nicely to trim the huge ass bush at the corner of the porch so we can get the lights around it... and since you'll be out there anyway, how about you start stringing lights? Ha. So now I have the garland lights wrapped around the porch rail, the net lights covering the trimmed bush, and lights on all of the smaller bushes.

We actually aren't the first to hang lights this season. There is a house up the street that was getting decorated last weekend. AND the main reason we started is because it's been 75 degrees all week. But starting tomorrow it's supposed to be 50 degrees and raining all weekend, then even colder next week. Who knows when we will get nice weather again. It is November after all.

It sucks hanging lights in the cold and/or bad weather. We didn't get lights hung at all last year. The weather was that bad on the days we had available. The year before we just did icicle lights around the roof edge because it was freaking cold out. One year we had some of our neighbors out on a weekend during an ice/snow storm hanging lights. On the roof!! That's just crazy.

FYI - When decorated, our house looks nothing like this:

I still love Rob...

Now that Breaking Dawn has begun filming, and Christmas is fast approaching, interest in my photo zipper pouches has picked up.. Just the other day I had a request using this photo:

I have to wonder, where the heck was I when these photos came out??? Living under a rock evidently. I went on a little eye candy search yesterday and came across these little pretties:

And my favorite...

I made my own birthday wonderful...

Even though it was a month ago, I thought I would share my birthday experience here. This is what is terrible about a weekday birthday: Husband at work, kids at school, and the dog and cat don't really care. Then I get kids home from school, homework started, kids fed, husband stops at home between jobs (part time evenings, his choice, not mine) quickest singing of Happy Birthday, hurry up open your card and present, okay gotta go.... then I'm back to homework and stopping the dog and cat from fighting. Everyday normal routine.

So what do I do? After homework I made the kids go to the library for me. I had just received an email that 'Return to Paradise' was in for me (which I will say was a disappointing read). I WAS 15th on the reserve list, so they must have gotten more copies. So we drove around the block and they went inside and picked up my book for me. Then I dropped them off at home and drove myself to Starbucks for my FREE - yes free - Pumpkin Spice Latte. And I received a very nice 'Happy Birthday Ma'am' from the 2 nice young men at Starbucks. Which made me feel old. Then I came home and had a piece of my birthday cake with my latte.

Black and White Paintings by Robert Foster

I came across these paintings on Etsy the other day. I think they are beautiful.

Storm Watcher

Memories

Windswept

These paintings would be so wonderful as book covers. Too bad I'm not a writer. I would love to use these paintings as my covers!!

Here are some actual book covers that I like:

Apple Picking and Pumpkin Sitting

A few weeks ago we headed across the mighty Mississippi River to Illinois for some apple picking (and pumpkin sitting). It was a beautiful day, but hot for October, in the mid 80's.

We went to one of the huge farms. So big they have to cart customers out to the fields in wagons. It was towards the end of apple season, so there were only 2 varieties to choose from - Golden Delicious and Red Rome. Both were picked and eaten, and they were yummy.

You can also pick your own pumpkin out of the field. We chose not to get pumpkins on this day. But the kids did like checking out the huge pumpkins that were on display.

It's November Already?

Where did October go?

Hope everyone had fun last night for Halloween. My son hasn't dressed up for a few years, but my daughter and her friend went out trick-or-treating the neighborhood.

We always have a really big turnout here. Tons of kids out and about with the parents. Not any kids out by themselves, except for the handful of teenagers. (I can honestly say that my parents never went trick-or-treating with us. Yes, it was the 70's, and we were naively ignorant of the bad things that could happen to us. I remember running to keep up with my 2 older brothers, and them getting mad because they had to bring me home when I got too tired to keep up with them. As I got older, my friend and I would always start out with them, but by the second block they had left us far behind.)

Where I live now we have lots of people with their fire pits in the driveway, and friends and neighbors gathered around... drinking. Lots of drinking is involved in any activity in my neighborhood. Actually, any day is a good day to break out the fire pit, grab a beer, and be seen. Sometimes it gets to be a bit much.
